Robert Bierwolf has some thirty years of experience in providing professional interim-, program- and project management services to typical large client organizations (e.g. KPN, Cincinnati Bell, Philips) in various sectors (e.g. Public, Telecom, Automotive, Infra) and is founder of MBBI bv. Currently, Robert is pursuing a PhD around the theme of “Towards Project Management 2030”. Robert is VP Conferences for IEEE Technology & Engineering Management Society (TEMS). Next to that he is Chair for the IEEE TEMS Benelux Section Chapter as well as member of other bodies such as IPMA, INCOSE, KIVI, KNVI.

Currently:

Robert Bierwolf is IEEE BLX Section Chapter Coordinator, VP Conferences IEEE TEMS 2015/2016-2017. He has been a member of the IEEE Internet of Things Community and the IEEE Cloud Community since 2015. Robert was elected Member-at-Large (MaL) to AdCom IEEE TEMS on 2015. He served as the Co-Chair IEEE TMC Europe Steering Cie on 2009.

2005-2006 he was IEEE R8 Chapter Coordination SubCommittee for IEEE EM & E. Back to  1999 he was the Chapter Chair EMS BLX.

On July 24th 1998 Robert was the vice Chair & Program Chair of IEEE Engineering Management Society (EMS) Benelux Chapter.

Robert Bierwolf was the coordinator – IEEE Region 8 (EMEA) Engineering Management, Education and Professional Communication Chapters, review member of the IEEE SWEBOK (Software Engineering Body of Knowledge, issue 2004, stoneman version), a meember of IEEE Computer Society until 2009, a member of IEEE Communications Society until 2004 and an  IEEE member since 1989.

Robert served as IEEE officer working jointly since 2005 on ICE – Int’l Conference on Concurrent Enterprising, with CeTIM (Centre for Technology & Innovation Management) and ESoCE-Net (European Society of Concurrent Enterprising Network). The conference moves around in Europe.
He’s a member of the ICE Advisory Committee (2005, 2006), Scientific & Industrial Advisory Committee (2007), Executive Committee (2008). Chair and organizer for ICE 2009 held in Noordwijk The Netherlands, including co-editor of the proceedings and honory co-author. Also he’s the Co-Chair for ICE 2010, 2013-2016 (www.ice-conference.org ).

Furthermore, Robert Bierwolf is a member of the Board of KIVI IT since 2013.

He is a  board member (Past Chair) NGI Regio Utrecht, the Dutch Computer Society for IT-professionals since 2004. Robert is also a member of NGI (Nederlands Genootschap voor Informatici, Dutch Computer Association) since 1989. NGI is now the platform for ICT professionals. Member of the chapters Security (BEV), Information Systems (IS) and Independant Consultants in IT (ZIT) which merged into IT-United (2005). IT-United later on became a SIG in NGI-NGN.

Originally member of two NGI Working Groups “Encryption” & “Risk Analysis” in the late eighties with Joop Bautz. Active as board member for NGI Region Utrecht since 2004.
Chair for NGI Region Utrecht 2005 – 2010. General board member since 2010.
Trackleader NGI Jaarcongres 2005, tracks “Organization & Architecture” and “Datamanagement & Architecture”. Chair of the NGI BORA in 2008.

On October 2009, Robert was invited at the Rabobank, by the VP of the Directorate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSRD/DMVO) to participate on an expert team on “Social Trends and Innovation” supporting the Rabobank to craft a vision for 2020. He was a Guest-editor for October 2010 issue of “Informatie” on the subject of Collaboration (www.informatie.nl ).

2005 – 2014, Robert Bierwolf served for IT-United, as general Board Member and 2nd Treasurer (www.it-united.nl ). In 2004 as general Board Member of NGI ZIT, one of the predecessor organizations. Member of the Phoenix Committee in 2014. Advisor to the Board per 2014.

Robert is the owner of MBBI bv since 2003, which is a company that provides Professional Services, Interim Management, Program Management, Project Management, Project Recovery, Change Management, Education & Training, Business Development.
His company Provided these services to MarketXS bv (nowaydays IHS Markit), Clocked Services Online bv, Interim Biznet bv, Qolor bv, Two Eyes Company (www.twoeyestv.com ), TSM Business School, TU Delft, Centre for Technology and Innovation Management (CeTIM) and other organisations.
Accredited and liaised with Capgemini Interim Management bv and Schaekel & Partners ( former ATOS Interim Management / KPMG Interim Management).

Robert was a guest lectures at Delft University of Technology, EWI Faculty, college “High Tech Start-ups”, on the subject of “Project and Programme Management”, November 2003 and December 2009, guest lecture at TSM Business School, MBA master class “Experience Innovation”, March 2004.
Guest lecture at the TBN Trainer Course on “Leadership and Communication”, January 2004.
External member of the Thesis Asssement Committee 2013 at the Hogeschool Utrecht (HU) Master Project Management.

Since 1990, Robert has been an instructor, examinator and Cie Member in Taekwondobond Nederland (TBN).

Robert has been project manager and consultant for several companies such as Qolor (2004-2016), ASPIDER Solutions (2011) and KPN (2006-2009). He was a Sr. Director Ops EMEA, Sr. Director IP/Wireline Ops Int’l, Sr. Mgr. Buss. Development & Program Mgmt (1994-2003)

Joining TEMS: The Why, How and What

Why joining TEMS? For Robert any community provides him the opportunity to engage into a dialogue on a multitude of subjects. And from such dialogue I can challenge my own thinking and sharpen my view on the subject through the views handed to me by the others in the dialogue.

How does joining TEMS add value to member’s profession? As any professional body, it provides access to knowledge and moreover to experience of others. As such it helps Robert in his own the life-long-learning objectives.

What motivates Robert Bierwolf to join TEMS? Robert believes that some people appear to have that sort of attraction, be it to help out or be it wanting to achieve some joint goals and definitely he’s one of those people.

VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITIES:

Robert’s core responsibility is with Conferences, getting a program or pipeline of conferences lined up. His other responsibility is as a Chapter Chair, arranging interesting events for the members.
