The inaugural two-day IEEE Tech Industry Summit ran in a single-track format at the Santa Clara Convention Center. In total, there were 46 industry speakers, of which half were 20-30 minute presentations, and the remainder were on 6 panels. We were delighted to have an all-women panel hosted by CISCO, discussing the privacy and security issue of the Internet of Things. The Industry Summit theme was “Challenges of the IoT (Internet of Things), and all speakers spoke on the complexities of the IoT. Session topics included Power & Energy Complexities, Security for Industrial IoT, IEEE Standard for an IoT Framework, IoT Computing Technologies, Energy for IoT Wearable products, Wireless Communication Challenges, Computing and Storage Challenges, and IoT Applications. A very popular session the one titled “Venture Capital and the IoT”. Companies and government institutions represented included Intel, Solantro, Southern Company Services, Real-Time Innovation, NIST, Bayshore, SafeLogic, D2M, Incubic, Hortau, Alizem, GGV Capital, Iotecha, Gyr, Kaspersky, Senslytics, Energous, CISCO, Nokia, National Instruments, Johnson Controls, ABB, Google, Microsoft, Coughlin Associates, Windriver, GE, Accenture, and SparkCognition. Attendees included several members of the IEEE Board of Directors: IEEE Division IV Director Bill Moses, IEEE Region 6 Director Tom Coughlin. Former IEEE Board member Lee Stogner also participated in the technical program and represented the IEEE Internet of Things Initiative.
